So where to start? How about the beginning? So Arthur learns of a threat so horrific that it threatens the very continent, one of the famous lances is dead. So what does he do? Well he goes shopping of course. Does he to tell anyone other than his family that he's alive? No. Does he inform his girlfriend or the teachers at the school? No. Does he inform the council of Kings and Queens? No. HE GOES SHOPPING! Yep, worlds ending, let me pop in to the local pub. Barkeep, another pina colada please. The total lack of logic in the book is astounding. He is given an object that would radically increase his core. Does he use it? No. At the end of the book we still don't know if he still even has it. Oh, and cliffhanger? Oh yes, total cliffhanger ending. I enjoyed the first books as simplistic as they were, it was fun. This was torture. Objectively looking at the story line makes you cringe with all the decisions that author makes for a supposed former King. In all seriousness, I've really enjoyed this series up to this point, and have been able to overlook some glaring grammar and spelling errors, but this latest ending (SPOILERS AHEAD) seemed lazy and completely counter to the nature of the universe the author has been building to this point.The decision to have the main character arrested, shackled, disrespected, and temporarily de powered at the end of this novel made zero sense in universe.First of all - these things were supposedly done at the command of the council - a council made up of 6 people of whom, 4 personally KNOW the main character and have established relationships with his family and friends that make it unlikely that they would arbitrarily order such things.Second, the author chose to have these measures read from a scroll, in a disaster area still under investigation, in front of the general public. There is no way a bureaucracy gets a written decree out that quick, especially one that punitive, when 4 of the council have reason to be friendly to Arthur. The timing is all wrong. On top of that, an unmitigated disaster such as the one written about here would need proper spin control, and rulers trying to build unity and care enough about what the people thought about that decision to do a joint broadcast would not be so laissez faire in the handling of this situation.Finally, the lances were clearly taking witness statements, which would all agree on one thing; the students and professors were getting literally killed until Arthur showed up and saved the day. LITERALLY KILLED! If nothing else, The prince and princess of the human lands that were RIGHT THERE witnessing the whole thing, and who ALSO have reason to be friendly to Arthur, would probably have a few things to say about the proposed treatment of the guy who literally just kept them from getting killed.In short, it was a lazy, poorly written ending that was kind of insulting to any one with any intelligence who had been paying attention to the build up of the universe as a whole across multiple books. It was BAD, and felt tacked on, sort of like an artificial break.The ending as is just reduces my willingness to spend future money on this series, simply because it seems so random when compared to how structured and well-thought out much of the rest of the world, stories and characters have seemed. It was really jarring and disappointing, and has damaged my interest and investment in the authors world, which had been steadily building to this point.
